Stress

So I once thought I was immune to stress. Stress never really got to me. I would get overwhelmed with things that needed to get done, but I would never really let it bother me. I never got angry, never got emotionally drained, and it never really changed my mood. I knew I had a lot of stuff to do, and I would get to it when I could.

I’m not convinced anymore. I went almost a year and a half without being sick. In the last month I’ve been sick three times. I’m coming off the latest, which has lasted 4 days so far. This time has been the worst, in terms of length as well as severity. The first 2 were pretty much gone within a day or 2, but this one has hung around. It started with a cold, then flu like symptoms, and now a fever, sore throat, headache, and swollen tonsils. I finally went to the doctor this morning, because I figured I wasn’t going to get any better unless I did. She said I needed antibiotics, which I am now taking, but it would appear I wouldn’t have been able to get over this on my own.

After being on Amoxicillin for a day I am feeling much better, and I finally feel like I’m on the road to recovery. I just wish I had visited the doctor a few days sooner. Maybe I’d be over this by now. I guess you live and learn.

Anyways, things have been pretty stressful in general I guess. I have a hard time defining stress and what it looks like. Things have been really busy, and my task list continues to get bigger by the day, at work and outside of work. So I think with the amount of stuff I have to do my body just gets overwhelmed. I probably don’t sleep enough and I probably don’t eat as well as I could (Yes, Yes I know many of you have been telling me this for years. :)). So I’m beginning to think that my body reacts to the stress by getting sick. It just shuts down and lets whatever bad germs in, because it just can’t stop them.

I guess I need to reevaluate how I deal with things, and come up with some ways to fix some of this stuff. Being sick is no fun at all, and I’m definitely done with it for 2007. :)

I couldn’t resist…

I received a piece of spam today with the image below. It was for a headset that lets you amplify sound so you can watch TV with the volume really low, thus not disturbing anyone.

Nothing says I love you like watching TV together with accessories that make you look like you’re wearing a horse collar! Simply Fabulous.
